Weekend Extravaganza!
‘Give a kid a tackle box, not an Xbox!’ – Brian Sowers
Brian Sowers Legacy Tournament has joined forces with Marion County, Crappie Masters, Crappie Anglers of Texas, Lake O the Pines Chamber of Commerce, Patterson Pest Patrol, LLC, and these wonderful sponsors to host 400 anglers, 100+ children, 2000+ spectators at the big fish fry and weigh-in event, and 300 bidding adults at the scholarship dinner event – to do just that!
The basis of this event is to pay it forward in the Legacy of Brian Sowers who was a beloved Crappie Masters announcer who had a passion for the next generation. His key phrase was ‘Give a kid a tackle box, not an Xbox’.
There will be a scholarship dinner event on Friday night at the Jefferson Institute with a catered meal from 1852 on Austin, live music from Second Childhood Band, full cash bar, raffles, door prizes, split the pot, auctions, and more – all of the proceeds go to the scholarship fund.
Saturday morning will begin the one-day crappie tournament with two divisions, amateur and pro.
Many of the pro anglers will come from all over the nation because of Brian, what he meant to them, and what this is all about. Brian had a knack for making every angler feel like they belonged on that big stage and that they were number one even if they were dead last. He gave many of them nicknames that they still go by and most of them their start on the professional trail.
This event is the talk of the industry, and will be the largest tournament of the year, and the largest ever held in Texas.
Many hold him dear and are looking forward to honoring his legacy in this event.

Friends of the Arts Jefferson, in partnership with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, U.S. Ukraine Foundation, and Razom for Ukraine, is pleased to present Cultural Forces – From the Ukrainian frontline with thanks, Saturday, October 19, 2024, 10:30am at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Cultural Forces, the cultural arm of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, brings seven world class artists, professional musicians before the war, now active-duty soldiers, for a music tour in the United States.
The 60-day-long tour across the Southeast, South, and West Coast states will thank the American people for their thoughts and action for Ukraine at war.
Artists’ repertoire presents renditions of a wide variety of music, from Ukrainian and world classics to covers of popular hits and country tunes, featuring the traditional Ukrainian string instrument, the bandura. There will be an opportunity for interaction between the audience and the artists.

Come & hear or share YOUR unusual mysterious and the somewhat scary thing that happened while living in older homes and traversing the dark streets at night alone!
Theatre president Marcia Thomas would like to hear from any citizens who
have stories to tell or accounts of unusual apparitions that could not be ex-
plained. Thomas plans to tell of at least two very unusual incidents that
she has had while living in her 1869 town house. Jefferson resident John
Nance also has a few stories to relate and at least one person from Marshall
plans to tell a story – or maybe its a ‘whopper’. Who knows?
This will be a fun way to keep the October Haloween Spirit ‘stirring’.
